The Wedge is designed to work with the E/Snapper Mouse and Rat traps.

Install the Wedges and traps in locations such as the attic, the hot press, under kick-boards in the kitchen (eg. in locations where they will not be accidentally tripped).

Place the LED Base Station (orange unit) on the kitchen worktop and instruct the householder to contact the Pest Control Company when the LEDs start flashing as this indicates that a rodent has tripped a trap.

In this installation there is no need for return visits to check the traps only to find empty traps. It often can be many days before a rodent trips a trap so the pest technician only has to visit when the householder calls.

If it is a holiday home and unoccupied most of the time then plug a GSM Unit with a 2G Sim Card into the LED Base Station so that a Pest Alert text message can be sent to the pest technician's phone or the text message can be sent to the Traptec Website which will record the event with date and time, and will then send a Pest Alert email to the pest control company.

You now need to program the GSM Unit to tell it where to send the Pest Alert.

To do this send the following text message to the number of the SIM card in the GSM Unit:

REPORT PHONE XXXXXXXXXXXX Press Send (X. = The pest technician's phone number)


REPORT PHONE YYYYYYYYYYY Press Send (Y = The Traptec Website phone number)

The only programming required to set up a Traptec system is to send one Text.

The Traptec Website numbers are:

On the Traptec Website the pest control company can set up a password-protected Dashboard to keep a permanent record of Pest Alerts, System Resets, etc.

This service is free from Traptec.


In a three storey building, install an ID Base Station (blue unit) on the first floor as close to the middle of the building as possible.

When a Wedge signal is detected by the Base Station the ID number of the Wedge is recorded and when the pest technician power cycles the Base Station it will display the ID number of the Wedge that was tripped.

The Wedge is designed to work with traps in locations where people cannot create false alarms such as above suspended ceilings, loft areas, IT cable trays, attics etc.

For other locations where there is human activity the Traptec Smarttrap Mouse Boxes (with the Mini Wedge built into the base) or the Killgerm Speedbreak Mini Wedge combination are very tolerant to nearby physical activity.

The installation is quick and simple and requires only one technician to be on site.

Each Base Station has a buzzer which sounds for two seconds when a Wedge signal is detected, and the GSM Unit has a built in microphone for installation purposes.

After the Base Station and GSM Unit are powered up, the Wedges and traps can now be put in place.

Step 1. Go to the location where a Wedge and trap is required, phone the number of the SIM Card on your mobile phone, you will hear a bleep every five seconds which indicates that you have dialed the correct number. The microphone in the GSM Unit is now switched on and you will be able to hear what it hears.

Step 2. Place the Wedge on the floor, press and release the button to trip it. When the signal arrives at the Base Station you will hear the buzzer sound on your mobile phone. This confirms that this Wedge is within radio range of the Base Station.

Step 3. Set the trap and place it on the Wedge - ensure that the orange button is depressed.

Step 4. Go to the next location and repeat the above steps.

Without this buzzer/microphone feature the installation would take much longer and would require a lot of walking back and forth between locations.

Note: No Pest Alert text messages are sent while the technician is dialled into the GSM Unit. The microphone function is disabled after the GSM Unit has been powered for three hours.


In a long three storey building some of the Wedges may be out of radio range of the ID Base Station so the installation of two or more LED Base Stations may be necessary.

The LED Base Stations are working as repeaters in this setup and will automatically set up a network to extend the radio range of the system.

The radio range between a Wedge and a Base Station and between Base Stations in a network is 50 to 60 meters.

If the Base Stations are within radio range of each other (and have the same system code) they will automatically set up a network.

When an LED Base Station joins a network the LED on the right side of the Base Station will switch on steady, the top LED on the ID Base Station will switch on steady when it joins a network.

Every Base Station has a unique address and transmits its address around the network every 20 seconds so each Base Station learns the addresses of all the other Base Stations in the network.

When a trap on a Wedge is tripped the Wedge transmits its ID number to the network so the ID Base Station can record it. Then the LEDs on the Base Stations will start flashing to indicate that a new Wedge signal has been detected.

The GSM Unit would normally be plugged into the ID Base Station. However, in a network installation the GSM Unit can be plugged into any of the Base Stations.

If a Base Station (not the one with the GSM Unit) leaves the network, for example is powered down, and if it does not return to the network within one hour a System Heartbeat Missing text message will be sent.

In a six storey building Base Stations are only required on the 1st and 5th floors.

The Base Station on the 1st floor will receive Wedge signals from the ground floor, from the 1st floor and from the 3rd floor.

The Base Station on 5th floor will receive Wedge signals from the 4th floor, from the 5th floor and from the 6th floor.

In a large building where more than 100 Wedges are required then a second system is necessary. This second system will need an ID Base with a GSM Unit with a 2G SIM Card and perhaps some LED Base Stations.

All the Base Stations and the Wedges must have the same system code. The system code in the second system must be a different system code than that used in the first system. This is necessary to avoid Wedges from the first system activating the Base Stations of the second system and vice-versa.

The building is now divided into two zones, because there are two GSM units with two SIM Cards with two different numbers. When a Pest Alert arrives the technician will know which zone in the building to go to. He can then remove the rodent and reset the Wedge/trap and Base Stations without having to check all the traps, with the minimum of time required on site.

Note: If required a Base Station (with the same system code) can be added to a network at any time and it will automatically join the network. However, if a Base Station is removed from the network all the other Base Stations must be power cycled to create a new network.


When the GSM Unit is first powered up the bottom registration LED will flash rapidly when it is registered on the GSM Mobile Cell network. This LED will flash every three seconds.

The top LED represents the GSM signal strength. If it is flashing the signal strength is OK and when it is on steady the signal is the strongest.

In the six storey building, installation of the GSM Unit should be in the Base Station of the 5th floor because the signal strength will be better.


We have found that Traptec installations in warehouses can be challenging because there are few power sockets and they tend to be on the perimeter walls, also the environment is constantly changing with merchandise being introduced, moved around and removed.

The way to have a stable network (in a warehouse and elsewhere) is to carefully consider the install locations of Base Stations.

They should be fitted at least four metres above the ground. If possible every Base Station should be in line of sight (able to see) one other Base Station in the network.

Be careful not to fit a Base Station in a place which could be blocked by a delivery of merchandise as this may deflect the radio signal and lead to network problems.

Always try to install Base Stations a few metres away from other electrical equipment to avoid the possibility of electrical interference which could disrupt the radio signals.

Also be aware that when the warehouse is not in use (nights, weekends, etc) there are other obstacles which can cause problems such as metal roller shutters or parked fork-lifts.

In a large warehouse it may be necessary to run power extension leads to have electrical power available nearer the middle of the warehouse. For example, if a Base Station is installed on a perimeter wall 50% of the radio range is lost outside the building so if possible move them away from the perimeter into the center of the building. This will give the best results, and a smaller number of LED Base Stations will be required.


There are two types of HEARTBEAT text messages.

Each GSM Unit is factory programmed to send a HEARTBEAT text message every 7 days.

By sending a text message to the number of the SIM Card in the GSM Unit, the GSM Unit can be programmed to send a HEARTBEAT text messages every day between 1 and 7 days.

For example if you want a HEARTBEAT text message sent every 48 hours, send this text message ot the GSM SIM Card number:

HEARTBEAT 2 Press Send (The reply will be HEARTBEAT FREQUENCY SET AT 2)

In an installation with one Base Station and one GSM Unit, if the Base Station is powered down and the HEARTBEAT text message does not arrive at the Traptec Website at the expected time a HEARTBEAT MISSING emmail will be sent to the pest control company.

When the Base Station is powered up again a SYSTEM RESET text message will be sent and the HEARTBEAT TIME starts from then.

If a Base Station in a network (not the Base Station with the GSM unit) is powered down and does not rejoin the network within one hour a SYSTEM HEARTBEAT MISSING text message will be sent and a SYSTEM HEARTBEAT MISSING email will be sent to the pest control company.

When all the Base Stations have returned to the network a SYSTEM HEARTBEAT RESTORED email will be sent.


If you have forgotten the REPORT PHONE number send this command to the number of the SIM Card.


You should receive a replay similar to REPORT PHONE XXXXXXXXXXXXX PROGRAMMED this tells you three things:

1. The Base Stations with the GSM Unit is powered up.

2. The GSM Unit has a GSM signal.

3. The SIM card has credit.

The report phone number that is programmed in the GSM Unit should be checked for accuracy.

If there is no reply then the problem can be one of the following:

1. The Base Station is powered down.

2. The GSM Unit has no GSM signal.

3. The SIM card has no credit.

If there is no reply you can dial the number of the SIM card and if you can hear the ringing tones from the GSM Unit, then the Base Station with the GSM Unit is powered up so the most likely reason is no credit on the SIM Card.
